چکیده

SOURCE/DESCRIPTION: A plasmid containing a 700 bp cDNA fragment (pGST2-Pvu II) was used as a probe (1). POLYMORPHISM: Hgi AI (GJGCJ/C) identifies a two allele polymorphism with bands at about 8.1 kb and 7.2 kb. CHROMOSOMAL LOCALISATION: The GST-2 gene has been localized on the short arm of human chromosome 6 (1).

Association of Glutathione-S-Transferase (GSTM1 and GSTT1) and FTO Gene Polymorphisms with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Cases in Northern India

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is growing in an epidemic manner across the world and India has the world's largest number of diabetic subjects. The present study was carried out to investigate the association of glutathione-S-transferase (GSTM1, GSTT1) and fat mass and obesity associated (FTO) gene polymorphisms with T2DM patients and controls, and its role in increasing the susceptibility to ...

Glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1) polymorphism in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

BACKGROUND Enzymes that contribute to the local detoxification in alveoli and bronchioles have an important role in the defence mechanism against tobacco smoke. It has been suggested that genetic susceptibility to smoking injury may confer a risk for the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The polymorphisms in glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1), a xenobiotic metabolis...

Efficiency of BclI Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism for Detection of Hemophilia A Carriers in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Southeast of Iran

Background: Indirect genetic diagnosis using polymorphic DNA markers can detect carriers of hemophilia A. This technique is preferable in developing countries because of its simplicity and cost effectiveness compared to direct mutation analysis. In the present study, we examined usefulness of intragenic marker BclI restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) at intron 18, for carrier detect...

Genetic monitoring of human polymorphic cancer susceptibility genes by polymerase chain reaction: application to glutathione transferase mu.

Several genes involved in the metabolism of carcinogens have been found to be polymorphic in human populations and are associated with increased risk of cancer at some sites. This study focuses on the polymorphic enzyme glutathione transferase mu (GT mu). Smokers with low lymphocyte GT mu activity are at an approximately 2-fold higher risk for lung cancer and an approximately 3-fold higher risk...

The GSTP1 Ile105Val polymorphism is not associated with susceptibility to colorectal cancer.

The glutathione S transferase (GST) family is a major part of cellular defense mechanisms against endogenous and exogenous substances, many of which have carcinogenic potential. Alteration in the expression level or structure of the glutathione-S-transferase (GST) enzymes may lead to inadequate detoxification of potential carcinogens and consequently contribute to cancer development. A member o...
